Foods to AVOID purging
-Cereal, especially cereal with crunchy, scratchy pieces like Mini-Wheats, Honey Bunches of Oats, etc. or anything that has slivers or flakes. Yes, this eliminates mostly all cereal, but Cheerios, Kix, or other round cereals are okay as long as you let them soak up enough milk
-Anything "Noodly", such as spaghetti or noodle soup. For some reason it will inevitably come back in it's original long, stringy form. Imagine that half of it is almost in your mouth and the other half is still mostly in your stomach. Yeah, it's as gross as it sounds.
-Meat, which you shouldn't be eating anyway.
-Chips, pretzels, nuts... Think "Crunchy = Scratchy". This can seriously injure your esophogus.
-Be careful with anything red in color. If you've eaten a bunch of tomato soup, and begin throwing up blood, you might assume that the blood is soup and not realize that you need to RUN to a hospital (it's a sign that you may be bleeding internally, and you could be dead in hours).
-Bread. Unless you drink outrageous amounts of water with it, it is very hard to get up.
-Coffee. Especially BLACK. Hurts like hell and tastes absolutely terrible! If you think you may purge within the next six hours, avoid coffee at all costs! If you absolutely need to purge, and you know there is coffee still in your stomach, try drinking some milk to neutralize it first.
Foods that are EASY to purge
Ice Cream
Yogurt
Soup (creamy soup) -not anything with noodles, you could choke
Rice
Bananas
Brownie Batter (YUM)
Chocolate Cream Pie
Jell-O
Melon, such as cantaloup, honeydew or watermelon
Chocolate
Oreos. Especially if they are dipped in milk or tea
Regular Tips
Brush your teeth before you purge, it helps to slow down tooth decay.
When eating, drink water between every bite. It's filling and helps food come up better.
For some people OJ, when sipped during a purge, helps everything come up better.
Avoid ruffage like lettuce, tomatoes, sprouts, carrots etc. Veggies are hard to get back up. Also avoid anyhting spicy!! The acid hurts!
Things like ice cream, jello, soft cake, and non-thick stew are easier to purge.
DO NOT use ipecac!!! It is to be used under MEDICAL SUPERVISION ONLY! Yes it causes the stomach to convulse and the person to vomit but it can weaken and even stop the heart. It can be fatal for first timers, or users at all.
The longest you should ever wait between the last bite and purging is approx 30 mins. After that the body begins to digest the food. Make sure you have enough time and privacy to do it.
The hardest part about being bulimic is usually privacy. Run a bath after a meal. While the water is running, purge. Or wait until your parents, siblings, whoever leave the house, then binge/purge and get rid of it all. When family is around just eat 'healthy' small portions. No one will suspect anything.
Before you leave the bathroom, rinse your mouth with water and mouthwash. DON'T brush! It pushes the acid into your gums and causes decay and mouth disease. Check your teeth for food, floss. Check your eyes in case they're bloodshot.
Purge in your room if you can, this will lesson the suspicion of you going to the bathroom all the time.
Weigh yourself before you eat, then after you purge to make sure you haven't gained.
Put a few pieces of toilet paper in the toilet before you purge, this will stop the water from splashing back in your face.
If your eyes turn red (and you have contacts) say that they've been bothering you. (hence the red eyes).
Right before you leave for the bathroom tell whoever you're with you have something in your eye and you need to go to a mirror, when you come back it'll explain the red eyes if you get them after you purge.
The more you chew your food, the easier it'll come back up.
Foods such as pudding, bananas, ice-cream, milkshakes, and anything else soft or smooth are easily purged.
Try purging in the shower. It helps cover up the noise, and its more relaxing.
Don't brush your teeth, instead use a mouthwash.
Let a Tums dissolve in your mouth to neutralize the acid.
Mix a teaspoon of mustard and water together, and drink it right before you purge. It makes it easier to throw up. *THIS WORKS REALLY WELL!*
Use your stomach muscles to help the food come up.
In a public restroom, flush the toilet while you purge, this will cover up the sound.
Mix baking soda w/ water and rinse out your mouth to neutralize the acid.
